Take a spoonful of local honey daily

Honey is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-bacterial. It is used as a homeopathic preventative for allergies, and is a mild laxative. It contains vitamins (potassium) and minerals (Calcium). A teaspoon of honey has a glycemic load of 3.5 as compared to 65 for white sugar (University of Sydney, Sweet as Honey, Glycemic Index research and GI news.). It contains amino acids, is a cough suppressant and is used topically for burns and wound healing. Honey may also include Vitamin B, copper, zinc, and others depending on the mineral content of the earth where the flowers were grown from which the bees gathered the pollen. A local bee keeper I use is in Oakland is Werf’s Bees. You can contact them at werfsbees@yahoo.com, tell him Alice sent you.

Research on honey for specific conditions includes:

Cardiovascular disease (associated with reduced risk of heart disease) Gastrointestinal disease (calms diarrhea associated with gastroenteritis, oral rehydration therapy, has an impact on IBS, irritable bowel syndrome), Neurological (anti-depressant, anticonvulsant, and anti-anxiety, shown to prevent memory disorders), Skin (resolves pimples, promotes wound healing). Cancer (Honey has been shown to induce tumor cell death, reduce inflammation, and inhibit tumor growth) Othman NH. Does honey have the characteristics of natural cancer vaccine?. JTradit Complement Med. 2012;2(4):276-283.

Avoid giving honey to infants under 12 months. It can cause infant botulism, a serious bacterial infection. Anyone who has an allergy to bee stings could be allergic to honey and especially bee pollen.

Preparing for the season of Colds and flu: COVID-19 has been increasing in frequency in the last few months. Although not as deadly, is still presenting itself in the community.
